95 Projects For
Telecom ChallengePioneers have registered a record 95 projects – more than double the previous high – for the 2006 Telecom Challenge.
The theme for this fourth annual Telecom Challenge is “Connecting Our Communities Through Technology.”The program is designed to encourage Pioneers to use the technology of the telecommunications industry to improve the communities in which they volunteer.Participants in the Telecom Challenge are required to perform at least a portion of their project during International Volunteer Week, April 23 – 29.Eight projects from among those registered will be chosen to receive a cash prize (four $1,250 prizes and four $500 prizes) which may be used to continue the project or may be donated to the cause the project addressed. Winners will be announced on December 1, 2006.
Registered projects include: implementation and facilitation of Project:Connect; disaster response; computer donations and training for seniors, disabled and other special needs individuals; connecting troops overseas with their families via video conferencing; providing health and human service organizations with better access to information-technology resources; and cell phone recycling programs.
